Gozaishi Shrine is located on the shores of Lake Tazawako in Semboku City, Akita Prefecture. It enshrines Princess Tatsuko, the lake god of Lake Tazawako. Princess Tatsuko was a beautiful maiden who, wishing to remain young and beautiful forever, is said to have made over a hundred prayers to Daizo Kannon at Inain-dake mountain to achieve eternal beauty. Following the Kannon's instructions, Princess Tatsuko drank from a spring in the north of the mountain and transformed into a dragon, becoming the guardian deity of Lake Tazawako. This legend of Princess Tatsuko remains strongly throughout the area surrounding Gozaishi Shrine, lending an air of mystery to the site. Gozaishi Shrine is known as a power spot for achieving beauty, being connected to the legend of Princess Tatsuko.
