Marvel at the stunning, nationally important cultural property stone walls up close!
Morioka Castle Ruins Park is located on the site of Morioka Castle, built by the first lord of the Morioka Domain, Nanbu Nobunao. Construction began in 1597, and after the castle buildings were demolished in 1874, the site was developed into a park in 1906. The park's remaining 12-meter-high stone walls are a breathtaking sight, designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, conveying the weight of history. Within the park, you'll find literary monuments dedicated to figures connected to Morioka, such as Inazo Nitobe, Takuboku Ishikawa, and Kenji Miyazawa. These monuments illustrate the connection between historical figures, Morioka's culture, and its natural beauty. In spring, over 250 cherry blossoms burst into bloom, creating a magical atmosphere when illuminated at night. The park also boasts beautiful autumn foliage, offering seasonal beauty throughout the year. Morioka Castle Ruins Park is a captivating blend of history, culture, and nature.
