Overview

Senshu Park is an urban park in Akita City, Akita Prefecture, developed on the site of Kubota Castle, once the residence of the Satake clan, the lords of Akita. Its expansive 16.29-hectare grounds feature a harmonious blend of lush greenery and historical structures that captivate visitors. At the heart of the park stands the restored Gosumuyagura turret, a symbol of Kubota Castle. Originally built for defense, this turret now serves as an observation deck offering panoramic views of the park. Nearby is the restored Honmaru Otemon gate, the former entrance to the castle, evoking the grandeur of the past. Senshu Park is also renowned for its beautiful Japanese garden. The garden incorporates traditional Japanese elements, such as ponds, waterfalls, and bridges. Flowers bloom throughout the year, creating stunning seasonal displays. Enjoy the cherry blossoms in spring, azaleas in early summer, and autumn foliage in the fall. The park also boasts a range of cultural facilities. The Akita Performing Arts Theater Milhas hosts concerts and theatrical performances. The Akita City Central Library Meitoku-kan offers a vast collection of books. The Akita City Cultural Creation Center hosts art and photography exhibitions. The Akita City Satake Historical Materials Museum showcases historical artifacts of the Satake clan, providing insight into Akita's history. Several historic shrines, including the Yojiro Inari Shrine, Hachiman Akita Shrine, and Yatakami Shrine, are scattered throughout Senshu Park.
