Overview

Odachi Castle is a mountain castle ruin located in Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture, built during the Muromachi and Sengoku periods. Situated atop Ogachiyama Mountain at an approximate elevation of 280 meters, it was known for its sturdy construction, utilizing the challenging terrain to its advantage. The castle's history dates back to the Muromachi period, when it was originally built as the stronghold of the Ogachi clan. During the Sengoku period, Asai Nagamasa became the castle lord. While initially allied with Oda Nobunaga, Nagamasa later turned against him, leading to a fierce battle at Odachi Castle. Nobunaga ultimately conquered the castle, and Nagamasa committed suicide. Odachi Castle is a crucial site in Japanese history. Its grand scale and historical value attract numerous visitors.
