Obama Castle is located in Obama City, Fukui Prefecture. It's a castle built during the Edo period. The current keep was constructed in 1604 (Keicho 9) by Sakai Tadakatsu, the feudal lord of Obama Domain, and has undergone several renovations since. Until the abolition of the han system (domains) in 1868 (Meiji 1), it served as the main castle of the Obama Domain. Obama Castle is also famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot. In spring, the castle grounds are ablaze with cherry blossoms, offering a breathtaking view. Various cherry blossom varieties, including Someiyoshino, are planted around the castle, transforming the entire area into a sea of pink during peak bloom.
