The beautiful "Ajisai no Miya" (Hydrangea Palace), where approximately 3,000 hydrangeas bloom in profusion.
Awai Shrine, located in Kanonji City, Kagawa Prefecture, is a designated Sukunikuni Karita County Jinsha (a major shrine) of the ancient Sanuki province. While its founding date is unknown, legend says it was established when the Sanuki Imibe clan cultivated this land and enshrined Amatama no Mikoto, their clan deity. The shrine grounds feature approximately 3,000 hydrangea plants, and an Ajisai Festival is held on the third Sunday of June. Also known as "Ajisai no Miya" (Hydrangea Palace) or "Ajisai Shrine", it's a beautiful place to enjoy these stunning flowers. Awai Shrine is also known for its serene and tranquil atmosphere. Visitors can relax and appreciate the beauty of nature and the sense of history. Several sub-shrines, including Sugio Shrine, Aramitama Shrine, and Awashima Shrine, are also located on the grounds, offering a deeper dive into the shrine's rich history. Awai Shrine is one of Kagawa Prefecture's leading shrines, beloved by many. We highly recommend a visit.
