Konpira-gu Shrine, located in Kotohira-cho, Kagawa Prefecture, is affectionately known as "Konpirasan." It is dedicated to Konpira-O-kami, the deity of the sea, and has long been worshipped for ensuring safe voyages, bountiful catches, business prosperity, warding off evil, and healing illnesses. It's also one of the temples on the Shikoku Pilgrimage, attracting numerous visitors. The shrine's 785-step stone stairway is itself a significant part of its charm. Take your time ascending, enjoying the sights of souvenir shops and udon restaurants lining the path. From the Hon-gu (main shrine), you can marvel at the stunning panorama of the Seto Inland Sea and Sanuki Plain. Many historical structures, including the Shoin and Asahi-sha, designated as Important Cultural Properties, further enhance its allure. The treasure hall houses first-class art and cultural artifacts, offering a rich artistic experience. Konpira-gu Shrine is a captivating tourist destination where history, nature, and culture intertwine. Visit and experience its magic for yourself!
