Imago Ura Beach is a scenic spot located in Kamicho, Hyogo Prefecture, and part of the Sanin Kaigan National Park. Situated on the west coast of a peninsula-shaped area between Kinosaki Port and Shibayama Port, almost in the center of the Kinosaki Coast on the northeastern coast of Hyogo Prefecture facing the Sea of Japan. The beautiful contrast of white sand and blue sea offers various recreational activities, including swimming, camping, and fishing. The cove, especially the area where the rock formation called Senjojiki (Thousand-mat spread) meets the white sand beach, presents a picturesque landscape like a painting. Off the coast, you'll find Shiraishijima and Kurojima islands, and in the sea off Senjojiki, there's a frog-shaped rock called "Kaeru-shima" (Frog Island). It is said that Hokkaisen (northern route) sailors made wishes at the rock, associating the word "kaeru" (frog) with "kaeru" (to return) for a safe voyage home. During the Edo period, the area was bustling with ships entering the port, hosting a branch office of the Shibayama Port and Shibayama Gobansho (Guard Post). Currently, it's no longer used as a port but has transformed into a recreational zone for swimming, camping, sports, and nature experiences. It's also known as a filming location for the 2010 movie, "Norwegian Wood." Selected as one of the "Top 100 Sunsets of Japan" and "Top 100 Sunset Inns of Japan" in July 2005. Various facilities are well-equipped, including Imago Ura Beach, Imago Ura Family Park, Imago Ura Family Campground, Yuusuge Park, Yuu nagi Park, Lawn Observatory, Family Inn Imago Ura, Tajima Sekiheki (red cliffs), and Kamicho Imago Ura Athletic Field. Nearby attractions include Obiki no Hana, Tajima Sekiheki, Kurojima Island, and Goshikidomon (Five-colored gates). Imago Ura Beach is a captivating tourist destination where you can experience nature and history. Be sure to visit!
