One of Sapporo's largest parks! Enjoy stunning scenery throughout the year across its vast grounds, featuring lush forests, walking trails, a plum grove, ponds, and wetlands.
Hirakoka Park, located 11km southeast of central Sapporo, has been under development since 1982. It's a key component of Sapporo's "Circular Green Belt Plan," aiming to surround the city with parks and green spaces. The park is divided east and west by Sapporo Shin-dori, a road running parallel to the Do-o Expressway. The 48.4-hectare western section retains its natural features, including forests, walking trails, a bowl-shaped plum grove, and ponds and wetlands perfect for nature observation. The 18-hectare eastern section offers multi-purpose fields, walking paths, and a wall fountain. The park's forests, covering 55% of the area, represent the northern limit of the konara oak (acorn) and are home to a diverse range of wildlife, including Hokkaido foxes (Kita Kitsune), kingfishers (Kawasemi), various insects like stag beetles (Kokuwagata) and giant Japanese darners (Oniyanma), plants like enreiso and mizubasho, and amphibians and fish such as the Japanese fire-bellied newt (Ezo Akageraeru) and the stickleback (Ibaratomiyo). The wetlands are primarily composed of Phragmites australis, with patches of Carex and mizubasho forming colonies, along with plantings of Ezonoryukinca and other plants. Sporting facilities include baseball fields, tennis courts, gateball courts, and a park golf course, providing recreational opportunities and promoting the health of local residents. Hirakoka Park is a precious asset for Sapporo citizens, offering opportunities to connect with nature and enjoy sports. Spend a relaxing time appreciating the beautiful scenery throughout the seasons. We encourage you to visit!
