A vast green space surrounded by abundant nature, offering panoramic views of Sapporo city.
Maeda Forest Park was planned as a key location in the Teine Green Zone, part of Sapporo's "Circular Green Belt Project," which aims to encircle the city with parks and green spaces. This park was created from scratch, building a forest where none existed before. Completed over ten years, starting in 1982, it features the Furusato Forest, Tsudoi Forest, and Wildbird Forest, with forests covering half of the park's area. Approximately 7,300 trees of about 60 species have been planted. The park also boasts 5,800 Japanese rose bushes (hamanas) and a total of 70,300 trees and commemorative trees. The flower garden features around 4,000 trees of 8 different species. The park offers various recreational facilities, including baseball fields, athletic fields, a park golf course, grassy areas, and barbecue areas, making it a fun place for people of all ages. Activities include nature observation, playing with plant debris, and events such as the "Fuji Matsuri" (Wisteria Festival) during wisteria season. In winter, visitors can enjoy snowshoeing and snow rafting. In 2009, the park was featured in the design of the "Teine-ku 20th Anniversary Commemorative Admission Ticket" (1,000 sets) sold at JR Teine Station and the "Sapporo City Teine-ku 20th Anniversary Commemorative Original Frame Postage Stamps" (3,000 sets) sold at 24 post offices in Sapporo. Maeda Forest Park is beloved by many as a relaxing spot for Sapporo citizens, a place to connect with nature, and to refresh both body and mind.
