Overview

Kongozan is a mountain on the border of Osaka and Nara prefectures, standing at 1125 meters. Known for its proximity to Osaka and easy access, it boasts well-maintained hiking trails, making it relatively easy for beginners to climb. From the summit, you'll be rewarded with stunning panoramic views of the Osaka Plain. Enjoy beautiful seasonal scenery, with cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant autumn foliage. Tenpo-rinji Temple, said to have been founded by En no Ozunu, the founder of Shugendo, is located at the summit and is known as a place where he practiced. The Chihaya Castle ruins, believed to have been built by Masashige Kusunoki, a warrior of the late Kamakura period, are located at the foot of Kongozan and are known as the site where Kusunoki fought against the Kamakura Shogunate. There are various ways to access Kongozan: by car, train, or bus. * By car: Approximately 1 hour from Osaka via National Route 165, and approximately 1 hour from Nara via National Route 308. * By train: Take the Kintetsu Minami-Osaka Line to Kawachi-Nagano Station, then take the Nankai Bus to "Kongozan Ropeway-mae," and walk for about 20 minutes. * By bus: Nankai Bus operates from the Osaka area, and Nara Kotsu Bus operates from the Nara area.
