Overview

Mount Kongo, standing at 1125 meters, sits on the border of Osaka and Nara prefectures, renowned as Osaka's highest peak. Historically revered as a sacred mountain for Shugendo, its summit houses Tenpo-rinji Temple, where En no Ozuno, the founder of Shugendo, is said to have trained 1300 years ago. Mount Kongo's easy access from Osaka city makes it a popular spot for hikers and climbers. The mountain offers a diverse range of trails, catering to all skill levels, from gentle slopes for beginners to challenging paths for experienced climbers. From the summit, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Osaka Plain. The stunning scenery changes with the seasons: cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, vibrant autumn foliage, and winter snow scenes offer year-round beauty. Besides Tenpo-rinji Temple, Mount Kongo boasts numerous historical sites, including the Chihaya Castle ruins and Kuzuki Shrine. Mount Kongo is a quintessential Osaka tourist destination, offering a blend of nature, history, and breathtaking views.
