Nomiyama Kannon-ji Temple is a branch temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect located in Shinoriku-cho, Kasuya-gun, Fukuoka Prefecture. It's also the 16th temple on the Shinoriku Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage. The principal image, the Senju Sen-gan Kannon Bosatsu (Thousand-Armed, Thousand-Eyed Kannon Bodhisattva), is a hidden Buddha, kept enshrined in a portable Buddhist altar. However, it is revealed during the Autumn Grand Festival held on the third Sunday of October, attracting many visitors. During the unveiling, the statue's magnificent form is on display, inspiring awe and deepening the faith of many. The temple grounds are abundant in nature, bursting with beautiful flowers and autumn leaves throughout the year. Spring sees a profusion of cherry blossoms painting the grounds in pink. Early summer brings vibrant hydrangeas in shades of blue and purple. Autumn showcases stunning foliage in fiery reds and yellows. These breathtaking views attract countless tourists. Nomiyama Kannon-ji Temple is also known as a place of training and practice for Buddhist monks, attracting practitioners from across Japan who come to hone their skills. Training for becoming an Ajari (a high-ranking monk) and Shika Koka (a rigorous spiritual practice) are conducted here, with monks pursuing enlightenment through dedicated training.
