The beauty of the moss-covered gardens is exceptional. Spend a peaceful moment enveloped in a world of tranquility.
Komyozen-ji Temple is a Rinzai Zen Buddhist temple of the Tofuku-ji school located in Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Established and opened in 1273 (Bun'ei 10), it was founded by Tetsugo Enshin, a disciple of Enni (Saint Ichikokushi). Situated a short distance from the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, it offers a tranquil escape from the urban bustle. The temple grounds feature a beautiful karesansui (dry landscape) garden, lush with verdant moss, showcasing seasonal beauty. From the fresh greenery of spring and the leafy summer, to the vibrant autumn foliage and winter snow scenes, it offers diverse landscapes throughout the year. The gardens are particularly noteworthy, with the front garden named "Bukko Sekitei" and the back garden "Ichiteki Kai Tei." Bukko Sekitei features fifteen stones arranged in the shape of the kanji character for light (光). Ichiteki Kai Tei is a karesansui garden where green moss represents continents and islands, and white sand depicts water and the ocean, creating a stunning landscape of meandering shores. Komyozen-ji Temple, serene and tranquil, offers a healing space where you can leave the city's hustle and bustle behind. It's a place to spend a peaceful time; we highly recommend a visit.
