One of Saga Prefecture's three major cherry blossom viewing spots, boasting breathtaking beauty during the spring cherry blossom season! The cherry blossom trees create a magnificent "tunnel of flowers," illuminated at night for a magical atmosphere.
Asukegaoka Park, located in Kashima City, Saga Prefecture, is renowned as one of the three major cherry blossom viewing spots in the prefecture. The park sits on the former site of Kashima Castle, and numerous historical structures remain, offering a glimpse into the past. During cherry blossom season, the avenue of cherry trees leading to the park is so impressive it's called the "tunnel of flowers." It's also famous as the first location in Kyushu to have night cherry blossom illuminations. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant beauty of the blossoms during the day and the magical illuminated scenery at night. Remnants of Kashima Castle, such as the red gate (Aka-mon), the main gate (Otemon), stone walls, and surrounding samurai residences, are scattered throughout the park, making it a fascinating place for history buffs. The Shoin Shrine, located within the park, enshrines the successive lords of the Kashima domain, from Tadashige Nabeshima, the first lord, to Naoaki, the 13th lord. It's a spot where you can enjoy both history and nature. Even outside of cherry blossom season, the park offers beautiful scenery throughout the year, providing a tranquil escape for those seeking a peaceful retreat.
