Explore a precious remaining school building from the Meiji era!
Iwakuni was a town known for its flourishing arts and education from early on, establishing military academies, civilian schools, medical schools, and foreign language schools. This school, opened in Meiji 3 (1871) as a foreign language school, produced Ichiyoke Fujioka, known as the "Edison of Japan." You can see his inventions up close. Aspiring engineers should definitely visit! The existing Iwakuni School building was constructed when the school opened in Meiji 4 (1872). In Meiji 40 (1907), it was moved to its current location when the Iwakuni Elementary School building was renovated. The museum, which houses the Meiji 4 (1872) elementary school building, underwent demolition, repair, and relocation in Showa 47 (1972). Nostalgic and fun, with precious textbooks and other materials. The building itself has a charming atmosphere and offers a rewarding experience. Experience Meiji-era education firsthand!
