The temple grounds are extensive, so allow ample time for a stroll. While the hydrangeas are typically in full bloom from late June to early July, the exact timing varies. Checking beforehand is highly recommended.
Jifuku-ji Temple was originally built in the Kōan period of the Kamakura era by Nagai Tokihisa near Yonezawa. It later relocated to its present location in Sendai, following the relocation of the Date clan. It's also known as the place where Date Masamune spent his boyhood. The temple grounds include Koyasan, where Masamune is said to have trained, and the Date family mausoleum. It's also famous as the place where Date Terumune entrusted the education of his son, Masamune. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery throughout the year, with cherry blossoms in spring, autumn leaves in autumn, and in early summer, approximately 1,000 hydrangeas burst into bloom, vividly coloring the temple grounds. The best time to see the hydrangeas is from late June to early July. A hydrangea festival is sometimes held, attracting many visitors. Why not spend some peaceful time surrounded by history and nature?
