Overview
Kuniyoshi Castle is a mountain castle built during the Muromachi period by the Asakura clan, powerful warlords of Echizen Province. Located in present-day Kuniyoshi-cho, Echizen City, it served as a crucial strategic point during Echizen's tumultuous Sengoku period, witnessing numerous battles. However, with Oda Nobunaga's expansion, the Asakura clan fell, and Kuniyoshi Castle was abandoned. Today, only parts of the stone walls and moats remain, yet it holds national historic site status and is a must-see for history buffs. Developed as Kuniyoshi Castle Ruins Park, it's also known for its stunning cherry blossoms. In spring, the castle grounds are awash in beautiful blossoms, drawing many visitors. The park features well-maintained walking paths for leisurely strolls, and an observation deck offers panoramic views of the Echizen plain. On a clear day, you can even see distant mountains. Kuniyoshi Castle Ruins Park is a beloved destination offering a blend of history and natural beauty.
