Nakoso Beach

Overview

Nakoso Beach is a shallow, gently sloping beach in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, located near the border of Ibaraki Prefecture. Boasting the largest expanse of beach in the Hamadori region of Fukushima, it's conveniently located near JR Nakoso Station on the Joban Line and offers numerous amenities, including accommodations and beach houses. The wide, calm waters make it ideal for families with young children. The beach also features a unique rock formation known as "Futatsuiwa" (Two Rocks), adding to its scenic beauty. Historically, Futatsuiwa was featured in songs and served as a popular fishing spot. However, due to erosion, it posed a safety risk to beachgoers. Therefore, Fukushima Prefectural Onahama Port Construction Office meticulously recreated it using carbon fiber-reinforced concrete, implementing a sophisticated imitation rock construction method and enhancing the shoreline protection. In summer, the beach is bustling with swimmers, and besides swimming, visitors can enjoy various water sports such as surfing and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). Nearby, Nakoso-no-Seki Park offers opportunities to explore history and nature. Nakoso Beach is a recommended destination for families and couples.
