Hiko-san Jingū is a shrine nestled on the 1,199-meter-high sacred Mount Hiko in Soeda-machi, Tagawa-gun, Fukuoka Prefecture. Revered as a sacred mountain since ancient times, Mount Hiko consists of three peaks – Kita-dake (North Peak), Naka-dake (Central Peak), and Minami-dake (South Peak). Kamitsumiya, Nakatsumiya, and Shimosumiya shrines are located on and around the central peak, Naka-dake, with the Hōheiden (offering hall) situated below.
Hiko-san Jingū is also known as a sacred site of Shugendo, and it is said that it once housed over 3,000 monastic houses and 49 ascetic training sites.
