Stunning scenery where the sea, sky, and Mount Kaimon intertwine at the southernmost tip of the Satsuma Peninsula!
Nagasakibana, meaning "Nagasaki Nose," is a cape at the southernmost tip of the Satsuma Peninsula, characterized by its long, narrow shape, much like Nagasaki itself. The majestic view of Mount Kaimon across the sea is breathtaking, and on a clear day, you can even see Yakushima and Iwojima. A legend of Ryugujo (the Dragon Palace) has been passed down through generations in this area. This tale, famously part of the story of Umihiko and Yamahiko, tells of Yamahiko losing a fishhook borrowed from Umihiko and journeying to Ryugujo to retrieve it. Tradition holds that this Ryugujo was located at Nagasakibana. There's also a legend connecting it to Urashima Taro's journey to the Dragon Palace, making it a place that has captivated people's imaginations for centuries. Nagasakibana is home to Ryugu Shrine, dedicated to Otohime-sama (the princess of the Dragon Palace). From the shrine grounds, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Mount Kaimon and the azure sea, enveloped in a sacred atmosphere. Nagasakibana also serves as a sea turtle nesting ground in the summer, highlighting its abundant natural beauty. Well-maintained walking paths allow visitors to stroll and enjoy the scenery. Nagasakibana offers a captivating blend of stunning views, rich history, and bountiful nature, truly embodying the tropical charm of southern Japan.
