Overview

Hibara Lake is a caldera lake located in Kitashiobara Village, Yama District, Fukushima Prefecture, formed by the catastrophic collapse of Mount Bandai. It's the largest lake in Fukushima Prefecture, boasting a circumference of approximately 14km and a maximum depth of about 270m. Hibara Lake is renowned for its magnificent scenery and rich natural environment. Well-maintained walking paths along the lakeshore offer opportunities for hiking and cycling. On the lake itself, you can enjoy boating, fishing, and canoeing. The view of Mount Bandai from Hibara Lake is particularly captivating, its majestic beauty enthralling all who visit. One of Hibara Lake's charms is its ever-changing appearance throughout the year. Spring brings a riot of cherry blossoms, painting the lakeside pink. Autumn showcases a vibrant display of autumn leaves, coloring the lake's surface in reds and yellows. Winter transforms the landscape into a tranquil snow scene. Along the lakeshore, you'll find a range of onsen ryokan (hot spring inns) and hotels, allowing you to relax in the soothing waters while enjoying the stunning scenery. Numerous campsites, restaurants, and souvenir shops also cater to visitors seeking a leisurely experience.
