Maniu Shinada's skunk cabbage habitat in Konan-machi, Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture, is a wetland forest of approximately 10,000 square meters, sprawling at the foot of Mount Nuinuki. Its location at a low altitude of about 500 meters above sea level, and north of 36 degrees latitude, surpasses the southern limit of the skunk cabbage's natural distribution, making this a remarkably rare phenomenon. It was designated as a Koriyama City designated natural monument on October 23, 1972. From late April to May, the skunk cabbage blossoms, creating a breathtaking scene of a vast expanse of white flowers. Well-maintained walking paths and boardwalks make exploration easy and enjoyable for everyone. A skunk cabbage festival is also held in late April, featuring local product sales and various events. The site is easily accessible by car, approximately 40 minutes from the Koriyama-Minami IC on the Tohoku Expressway. Ample parking is available. By train, take the JR Iwaki-Nishi Line to Ageta Station, then a bus to Konan High School, followed by a 50-minute walk.
