Overview

Wakamatsu-ji Temple, located in Tendo City, Yamagata Prefecture, is an ancient temple with a history spanning 1300 years. It has long been a site of faith as the first temple on the Mogami Thirty-three Kannon Pilgrimage. According to temple legend, it was founded in 708 during the Nara period by Gyoki Bosatsu. It is said that it was later rebuilt to its present form during the Kamakura period. The principal image, the Eleven-faced Kannon Bodhisattva, is believed to bestow blessings on matchmaking, especially attracting many women seeking romantic success.
