An art museum showcasing a wide range of works, from modern to contemporary art.
The Miyagi Museum of Art, located in Aoba-ku, Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, opened in 1981. It boasts a diverse collection of artworks from Japan and abroad, primarily focusing on works by artists connected to Miyagi Prefecture and the Tohoku region from the modern period onward. Its collection of sculptures by Tadao Sato is particularly impressive, and the separate Tadao Sato Memorial Museum offers a dedicated space to admire his works. The museum features a creative studio where visitors can experience creating various artworks, including paintings, prints, and three-dimensional pieces. Four beautiful gardens—the front garden, inner garden, north garden, and Alice's Garden—surround the museum, offering tranquil green spaces for relaxation. Conveniently located a 7-minute walk from Kokusai Center Station on the Sendai Subway Tōzai Line, the museum is easily accessible. Surrounding attractions include Sendai Castle Ruins, Sendai City Museum, and Sendai International Center, making it a perfect spot for a full day of sightseeing.
