Japan's first museum dedicated to the five senses! Sharpen your senses and boost your imagination through sensory experiences!
Overview
Opened in 2000, the Sensory Museum is Japan's first museum focusing on the five senses. Located in the naturally beautiful Osaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, the building itself, designed by Rokkaku Kijou, is a work of art. The museum is divided into two zones: "Body Sensory Space" and "Meditation Space," featuring various exhibits stimulating the senses through sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Unique exhibits like "Ear Objects," "Forest of Darkness," and "Forest of Fragrance" allow visitors to rediscover senses they may have overlooked and spark their imaginations. Children can learn about their senses through play, while adults can escape the everyday hustle and rediscover inner peace. An on-site cafe offers light meals and drinks, including a blueberry shake made with locally grown blueberries. Check the official website for regularly scheduled workshops.
