The Saba Kaido Exchange Hall, located in Kutsugi Ichiba, Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture, is a facility that conveys the history and culture of the Saba Kaido (Mackeral Road).
The Saba Kaido flourished as an important route connecting Kyoto and Tsuruga since ancient times. This road was particularly famous for the mackerel trade, with a large volume of mackerel transported along it.
At the Saba Kaido Exchange Hall, there's an exhibition corner that clearly introduces the history and culture of the Saba Kaido. Dioramas recreating the daily life and culture of that time, and tools actually used back then, are on display. There's also a video corner where you can learn about the history of the Saba Kaido.
