Amagi Park is a vast park in Asakura City, Fukuoka Prefecture, centered around the Hyou-tan Pond. In spring, approximately 4,000 cherry trees burst into bloom, making it a renowned cherry blossom viewing destination in the prefecture.
Amagi Park has a long history, with park construction beginning around 1902, when the summit of Maruyama, a mountain connected to Kotohira-yama, was leveled. The park area was then expanded in 1915 as a celebration of Emperor Taisho's enthronement, with cherry trees planted, laying the foundation for the park as we know it today. Amagi Park was officially established the following year, in 1916.
The Hyou-tan Pond, located in the center of the park, is especially beautiful during cherry blossom season. The fountain operates from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with a 5-minute show every hour, on the hour. At night, the park is illuminated, enhancing the beauty of the fountain with its own illumination.
Beyond cherry blossoms, Amagi Park offers a variety of flowers throughout the year, including wisteria, azaleas, and autumn leaves. The park also features abundant playground equipment and athletic facilities, making it enjoyable for families with children.
Furthermore, a well-maintained hiking trail leads to Ohira-yama mountain, offering opportunities for nature enthusiasts to enjoy a refreshing hike.
Amagi Park is an ideal place for those seeking a relaxing time surrounded by nature. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of each season while strolling, picnicking, or simply unwinding and recharging.
