The site of Miki Castle, famous for the Battle of Miki. Experience the tragedy of Bessho Nagaharu and the history of the 'Miki no Hoshigoroshi'.
Miki Castle was a hilltop castle built on a plateau by Bessho Norishige. The Bessho clan, who ruled this area as the protectors of eastern Harima, sided with the Mori clan, leading to a conflict with Hashiba Hideyoshi, a retainer of Oda Nobunaga, in the Battle of Miki. This battle tragically ended with a prolonged starvation siege known as 'Miki no Hoshigoroshi'. After killing his wife and children, Bessho Nagaharu committed suicide, resulting in the fall of Miki Castle. Today, the Miki Castle ruins are preserved as Kaminomaru Park. Remaining structures such as the presumed former keep and wells evoke the atmosphere of that time. The Miki History Museum displays materials related to Miki Castle and the Battle of Miki, offering a deeper understanding of its history. The Miki Castle ruins are a historical site enjoyable for history buffs and casual visitors alike. Be sure to visit!
