Akashi Castle is a castle ruin located in Akashi City, Hyogo Prefecture. Built in 1619 (Genwa 5) by Tadamasu Ogasawara, it sits at the foot of the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge, boasting stunning views of the Akashi Strait and Awaji Island. While the main keep no longer stands, the castle's designated Important Cultural Properties – the Sonan Yagura and Konan Yagura turrets – along with its magnificent stone walls, evoke its former grandeur. Legend says the Sonan Yagura was relocated from a ship-castle, and the Konan Yagura from Fushimi Castle.
In spring, Akashi Castle is ablaze with cherry blossoms, painting the entire castle grounds in a pink hue. This season draws numerous visitors. From the castle, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge and the Akashi Strait.
Akashi Castle is a popular tourist spot where you can experience both history and nature. If you visit Akashi, be sure to stop by!
