Kamafukiyama Observatory is one of Shimokita Peninsula's leading tourist attractions, offering breathtaking views both day and night. During the day, you'll be treated to a 360-degree panoramic vista of the peninsula. The tranquil Usoriyama Lake stretching below, the Hakkoda Mountains rising across Mutsu Bay to the south, and even the distant Shiriya Saki Lighthouse – the magnificent scenery is truly awe-inspiring. On a clear day, you can even see as far as Hokkaido.
At night, the city lights sparkle brilliantly, creating a night view that spreads like the Milky Way, further enhancing the observatory's allure. In particular, the night view known as "Light Swallowtail Butterfly," selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Night Views, is renowned as one of the finest in Tohoku. A 15-minute walk along the trail from the observatory will lead you to the summit (878m) for even more spectacular views.
Kamafukiyama Observatory changes its face with each season: vibrant spring greens, lush summer foliage, autumn's fiery colors, and winter's snowy landscapes offer a constantly evolving experience. Autumn's foliage is particularly striking, painting the mountains in brilliant reds and yellows.
Kamafukiyama Observatory is the perfect place to experience the natural beauty and culture of the Shimokita Peninsula and create unforgettable memories.
