Overview
Rikugo's Mountain Cherry Blossoms (Sakura Senkyo) is a breathtaking spot in Rikugo, Ikeda-machi, Kitaazumi-gun, Nagano Prefecture, where mountain cherry blossoms blanket the mountainside.
Named "Sakura Senkyo" (Cherry Blossom Fairy Gorge), after Tao Yuanming's "Peach Blossom Spring" in Chinese literature, which describes a fairy gorge filled with peach blossoms, this location boasts a stunning display of cherry blossoms.
With an estimated number of thousands, these mountain cherry blossoms grow wild across the mountainside. It's said to be a 'village of cherry blossoms planted by birds,' as birds are believed to have spread the seeds.
In spring, you can enjoy the beautiful contrast between the pink cherry blossoms and the white snow of the Northern Alps.
The panoramic view of the mountain cherry blossoms is truly awe-inspiring, a paradise worthy of the name.
The Noboribashi Bridge Appreciation Society works to preserve this stunning landscape. They perform a bird-chasing ceremony in winter to promote healthy blossom growth, and also maintain the surrounding area by mowing grass and managing the parking lot.
Access is approximately 31 minutes from Azumino IC. By public transportation, it's about 27 minutes by taxi from Shinano-Matsukawa Station. Please note that due to narrow roads, buses larger than medium size are discouraged.
