Experience the precious architectural style of the Meiji era!
Overview
Kiryu Meiji-kan is a historic building, originally constructed in 1878 (Meiji 11) in Maebashi as a public health office and medical school. It was later significantly renovated when relocated to Aioi Village, Yamada County. After being designated an Important Cultural Property, it underwent preservation and repair work, restoring it to its original appearance. The building houses permanent exhibits of Meiji-era pianos, organs, and materials related to Western-style architecture, serving as a museum. The meeting rooms and exhibition halls can be used for conferences and exhibitions, and individuals can also use the second-floor exhibition hall and meeting rooms for solo or group exhibitions. The building showcases features characteristic of Meiji-era Western architecture, including brick exterior walls and arched windows, demonstrating the high level of architectural technology of the time. Exhibits include period pianos, organs, and furniture, allowing visitors to imagine life in those days. Kiryu Meiji-kan offers not only a glimpse into the valuable architectural style and interior design of the Meiji era, but also exhibits materials such as pianos and organs, providing an opportunity to experience the history and culture of the Meiji period.
