A breathtaking viewpoint offering panoramic views of Hiroshima City! Enjoy beautiful scenery throughout the year, including cherry blossoms and autumn leaves.
Mount Kogan is a 221.7-meter-high mountain located in the southeastern part of Minami-ku, Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Historically known as "Mamiyama" and "Shiroyama", its current name has several possible origins. Locally, there's a legend that digging at the base of a nanten (sacred bamboo) plant bearing white berries will reveal gold coins. Mount Kogan is renowned for its spectacular viewpoint overlooking Hiroshima City and Hiroshima Bay. At the summit, you can find remnants of Jinbo Castle's stone walls – a fortress from when the area was known as Jinbo Island – and the remains of a signal fire platform used to pray for safe voyages, providing a glimpse into the area's history. In spring, cherry blossoms planted along the mountain trail burst into bloom, painting the mountain in shades of pink. Autumn brings a stunning display of autumn foliage, attracting many tourists. At night, the glittering cityscape of Hiroshima makes for a beautiful nightscape, making it a popular date spot. Mount Kogan is a quintessential Hiroshima sightseeing spot, offering a blend of nature, history, and romance. We highly recommend a visit!
