The breathtaking view from the rooftop observation deck, "Hiroshima no Oka," offering a panoramic view of Hiroshima city!
The Origami Tower, opened in 2016, is a multi-purpose facility located right next to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Its rooftop observation deck, "Hiroshima no Oka," is a popular spot offering stunning views of the Atomic Bomb Dome and the city of Hiroshima. The wood deck observation space allows a gentle breeze to flow through, letting you fully experience the sounds and scents of Hiroshima. On a clear day, you can even see Mount Misen, the highest peak of Miyajima Island. "Hiroshima no Oka" is more than just an observation deck; it's a place of contemplation, created with prayers for peace. It's designed to encourage visitors to reflect on the significance of this place, to think about their hometowns, and to truly appreciate the value of peace. In addition to the rooftop observation deck, the Origami Tower houses various facilities, including the "Origami Plaza," where you can experience diverse digital attractions; "SOUVENIR SELECT Hito to Ki," a souvenir shop offering a selection of Hiroshima's finest products; and the "Akusho Cafe," a cafe perfect for a break during your sightseeing or exploration. The Origami Tower was built by Tetsuya Matsuda, the current Chairman and CEO of Hiroshima Mazda Co., Ltd. Surprisingly, the tower was constructed entirely at the company's own expense. Why would Hiroshima Mazda, a company involved in car sales and repairs, build a facility dedicated to promoting the significance of Hiroshima, a city of peace, to the world? It all started with a fateful encounter. When the building that preceded the Origami Tower was put up for sale, Mr. Matsuda happened to visit it. He was instantly captivated by the view from the rooftop: the Peace Memorial Park directly below, and the sprawling city of Hiroshima beyond. It was a sight of his hometown he had never seen before – a testament to Hiroshima's resilient recovery from the atomic bombing devastation, a city once described as a place where 'not even grass would grow for 75 years'. "This view should be seen by people all over the world. Showing this view is my mission!" Mr. Matsuda believed that showcasing the current state of Hiroshima would be the most powerful message to convey the preciousness of peace. This was the starting point of the tower. The Origami Tower offers visitors to Hiroshima a chance to reflect on peace.
