Overview

Peace Memorial Park is an irreplaceable place for the citizens of Hiroshima, serving as a testament to the atomic bombing tragedy and a prayer for lasting world peace. Within the park stands the World Heritage-listed Genbaku Dome, and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, which conveys the horror of the atomic bomb and the brutality of war. The Genbaku Dome is a precious relic preserving its appearance from the day of the bombing, allowing visitors to witness the scars of war firsthand. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum displays the devastation caused by the atomic bomb, the experiences of survivors, and the horrors of war, prompting many to reaffirm the importance of peace. Numerous monuments, including the Atomic Bomb Victims' Cenotaph and the Peace Flame, are also located within the park, embodying the people's wishes for peace. The Atomic Bomb Victims' Cenotaph bears the names of those who perished in the bombing, and many visitors pay their respects there. The Peace Flame, perpetually burning in prayer for lasting world peace, emits a magical light at night, soothing the hearts of visitors. Peace Memorial Park boasts expansive green spaces and several A-bomb survivor trees. In the quiet atmosphere, one can strongly feel the longing for peace; it is a truly moving place. Remembering the tragedy of war and building a peaceful future requires that many people visit this park to contemplate peace and pass on its message.
