A shrine with over 1,080 years of history and a serene atmosphere. Especially beautiful during the autumn foliage season, attracting many visitors.
Suwa Shrine, located in Chizu-cho, Yazu-gun, Tottori Prefecture, is a historic shrine founded in 1278 (Kōan 1). Its origins trace back to the enshrinement of sacred spirits from Suwa Shrine in Shinano (Nagano Prefecture). Like Suwa Taisha, it enshrines the deity, Takeminakata-no-kami. It was known as Suwa Myōjin from ancient times, but was renamed Suwa Shrine in 1868 (Meiji 1) following the consolidation of other shrines. The serene atmosphere of the grounds offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, providing a relaxing space to enjoy the changing seasons. The shrine is particularly breathtaking during the autumn foliage season, when vibrant colors paint a magical scene. The grounds also feature several power spots believed to bring good fortune and enhance energy, captivating visitors. For example, a large boulder on the mountainside next to the second torii gate is a popular power spot; touching it is said to bestow power. Other spots are believed to grant wishes or offer blessings for romance. It's an ideal destination for those seeking relaxation and rejuvenation.
