Shimetori Shrine, located in Yūrihama-chō, Tōhaku-gun, Tottori Prefecture, is the Hōki-no-kuni Ichinomiya (the most important shrine in the Hōki province), revered for centuries as the guardian deity of this region. The enshrined deity is Takehazuchi-no-Mikoto, also known as the god of weaving. Traditionally founded in the 5th century, it has gathered much faith throughout its long history. The shrine grounds are peaceful and serene, surrounded by lush nature. Along the approach is the Ansan-iwa (Safe Childbirth Rock), which many women affectionately touch while making a wish. The shrine also houses the Hōki Ichinomiya Kyōzuka (Hōki First Shrine Sutra Mound), where a national treasure bronze sutra tube was unearthed, offering a glimpse into history. Miyado Benten, facing Lake Tōgō, is one of the seven Bentens of Shimetori Shrine, and is said to be where the enshrined deity, Geshōhime-no-Mikoto, enjoyed fishing. Shimetori Shrine is believed to offer various blessings, including safe childbirth, fertility, and protection from misfortune.
