The Menard Art Museum opened in October 1987 to make publicly accessible the art collection amassed over two decades by Daisuke and Misuzu Nonogawa, founders of Menard Cosmetic Co., Ltd. The collection centers on Western paintings from Impressionism onward, and Japanese paintings and Western-style paintings by Japanese artists from the Meiji period (1868-1912) and later. It also houses approximately 1,500 prints, sculptures, and craftworks. The museum building itself is impressive, featuring granite exterior walls and high ceilings. The interior is filled with natural light, creating a comfortable space for contemplation. Each exhibition room has its own unique character, enhancing the relaxed viewing experience. Several special exhibitions are held annually. Past exhibitions have showcased masterpieces by Western painting giants such as Monet, Renoir, and Van Gogh. Other exhibitions feature various genres, including Japanese paintings, sculptures, and crafts. A lush green garden is also located on the museum grounds, providing a perfect spot for a relaxing stroll. The garden offers beautiful views of the museum building and the surrounding landscape. Conveniently located near historical sites such as Komaki Castle, the Menard Art Museum offers a tranquil and peaceful setting for those seeking a contemplative art experience.
