A museum where you can experience the history, culture, and art of Japanese ceramics.
Overview
Nestled in the hilly landscape of Seto, Aichi Prefecture, the Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Museum is a specialized museum surrounded by abundant nature. It offers a comprehensive look at the history, culture, and art of Japanese ceramics, boasting a vast collection of domestic and international pieces. Permanent exhibitions trace the history of Japanese ceramics and showcase representative production areas like Seto-yaki and Mino-yaki. You can explore the remains of kilns used from the Heian to Kamakura periods (Minamiyama 8 and 9-A to 9-D kilns), as well as reconstructed ancient kilns, including a large kiln from the Muromachi period and a climbing kiln from the Edo period. Special exhibitions feature contemporary ceramic works and curated collections based on various themes. In recent years, they've focused on showcasing contemporary ceramic art and global ceramics. The museum also offers pottery-making experiences and a cafe.
