Overview
The Kawagoe City Museum of Art is located in Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture, on the site of the second bailey of Kawagoe Castle. Opened on December 1, 2002, its exterior features a design reminiscent of Kawagoe's traditional kurazukuri (storehouse-style) buildings. The museum houses permanent and special exhibition rooms. The permanent exhibition rooms showcase numerous works by artists connected to Kawagoe, including Settai Komura, Seiju Shimoda, Katsuhei Iwasaki, Kyuichiro Aihara, and others who were born and raised in Kawagoe, as well as artists associated with the Kawagoe clan such as Masakata Hashimoto, Anji Inoue, Unkei Moriwaki, and artists with ties to Kawagoe City like Tomohide Koizumi, Hideyuki Nagasawa, Shizuma Uchida, and Tadahiro Kubo. The special exhibition room hosts five special exhibitions annually, showcasing a wide range of works from contemporary art to traditional crafts. The Kawagoe City Museum of Art is a fascinating spot to experience Kawagoe's history, culture, and art. Be sure to visit when you're in Kawagoe.
