A museum where you can appreciate precious Oriental ceramics, including Ko-Imari and Nabeshima ware.

Overview

The Toguri Museum of Art is a museum exhibiting Oriental ceramics collected over many years by businessman Toru Toguri. Opened in 1987, it houses a large collection of traditional Japanese ceramics, including Ko-Imari and Nabeshima ware. During Japan's post-war period of rapid economic growth, when Western culture was dominant, Mr. Toguri began collecting ancient art with a strong desire to pass on Japan's traditional culture to future generations. He established this museum to share his collection with the public. The Toguri Museum of Art boasts a wealth of valuable works, including Ko-Imari and Nabeshima ware, as well as ceramics from China and Korea. The Ko-Imari collection is particularly impressive, its beauty captivating. The delicate painting, rich colors, and unique style will mesmerize visitors. The museum building stands on the former site of the Nabeshima clan's residence in Matsuto, surrounded by a lush, quiet residential area. The museum's beautifully landscaped garden is also a delight to stroll through. The Toguri Museum of Art offers a precious opportunity to experience the world of traditional Japanese ceramics. It's recommended for those who wish to leisurely appreciate the artworks in a quiet and serene atmosphere.
