Sekiohzenji Kamaishi Daikannon is a colossal 48.5-meter-tall Kannon statue erected in 1970. Its majestic presence overlooking Kamaishi Bay is truly awe-inspiring. The interior features a spiral staircase leading to the summit, where seven deities of good fortune (Shichifukujin) are enshrined. As you ascend, you can admire these figures. At the top, an observation deck provides panoramic views of Kamaishi, including Kamaishi Bay and the factory smokestacks. The powerful steam rising from the smokestacks symbolizes the vibrant industrial heart of the city. From the deck, you'll witness a breathtaking vista of the blue sea and sky, the cityscape, and the harmonious coexistence of nature and human activity. Designated as a "Lovers' Sanctuary," Sekiohzenji Kamaishi Daikannon features a heart-shaped monument of two embracing seagulls on the observation deck, making it a romantic spot for couples to pledge their love.
