Akita City Oomoriyama Zoo, affectionately known as "Miruve," is a zoo operated by Akita City located within Oomoriyama Park. Its expansive 15-hectare grounds are home to over 90 species of animals. A highlight is the "action exhibit" style, allowing for natural observation of animal behavior, complemented by unique, handcrafted exhibits created by the zookeepers.
Inspired by Asahiyama Zoo's renowned "action exhibit" approach, the zoo's displays are ingeniously designed despite its smaller scale. For example, the "Chimpanzee Forest" features high poles and ropes, recreating the chimpanzees' arboreal lifestyle. Many exhibits are handcrafted by the keepers, including the "Beaver's House" and the "Prairie Dog's Platform." The "Wow! Balcony," where playful ring-tailed lemurs zip overhead, is another popular attraction.
Daily "Manma Time" events showcase animals such as lions and Amur leopards dramatically leaping for horsemeat, and chimpanzees using bamboo poles to knock down apples. Check the information board near the main gate or the zoo's website for feeding schedules and participating animals.
Visitors can even participate in feeding experiences with some animals! Monkeys and camels are available daily, while penguins and giraffes are available on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Check the information board near the main gate or the zoo's website for details.
The zoo also features an amusement park called "Anipa" and a snack corner called "Mori no Komachi," ensuring a full day of fun. Visit Akita City Oomoriyama Zoo for an unforgettable experience!
