A sprawling marshland offering majestic views of the Kuju mountain range. Enjoy the seasonal plants and scenery along the well-maintained boardwalk.
Tadewara Marshland is a vast intermediate marsh located in Aso-Kuju National Park in Kuju-machi, Oita Prefecture. Along with Bogatsuri, it was registered as a Ramsar site in 2005, the first in Oita Prefecture. Situated at an altitude of 1,000 meters, it boasts the largest area among intermediate marshes in Japan. Rare marshland plants such as *Masugaya* and *Mizugomke* thrive here. Controlled burning (noyaki) is practiced to maintain the marshland's health. A well-maintained boardwalk allows visitors to enjoy the changing seasonal plants and landscapes. Spring offers *Mizubashou* and *Ryukinka*, summer brings *Sagisou* and *Rengeshouma*, and autumn showcases vibrant autumn foliage. The adjacent Choja-hara Visitor Center features nature exhibits and a high-definition theater showcasing the four seasons of Kuju.
