A hidden gem of a waterfall, where the delicate water spray resembles cherry blossoms.
Sakuradaki Waterfall is one of the Tenkaze Sanpaku (Three Waterfalls of Tenkaze), located in Hitashi City, Oita Prefecture, along with Jion-no-taki and Kannon-no-taki. Fed by the Goma Highland and flowing into the Kugushu River via the Garaku River, this waterfall boasts a drop of approximately 25 meters and a width of approximately 15 meters. Its abundant water cascades down in countless fine streams, the resulting spray resembling cherry blossoms—thus its name. The beauty of its delicate spray is praised in the *Ho-go-koku-shi*, a geographical text of Bungo Province written in 1803 (Kyoho 3), describing it as "scattering like flowers, flowing down like a bamboo blind." Sakuradaki is a secluded waterfall enveloped in tranquility, cherished by literati and artists since the Edo period. A short 10-minute walk from Tenkaze Station makes it easily accessible for a leisurely stroll. The surrounding area also features Tenkaze Onsen hot springs and Tenkaze Gorge, offering further opportunities to explore the natural beauty of the region.
