Enjoy a free visit to the garden of an Edo-era wealthy merchant!
Hanroku Garden is the garden of the Nakano family, a prominent family who thrived in the Edo period through maritime transport and brewing. This garden, cherished by the wealthy merchant Nakano Hanroku, is open to the public for free, allowing for leisurely strolls and relaxation. The four kura (storehouses) have been beautifully restored with their black walls, and convenient amenities such as restrooms and azumaya (gazebos) have been added, making it perfect for a relaxing visit. As a stroll-style Japanese garden, and due to its proximity to the sea, it is said that seawater was channeled into the pond, causing the water level to rise and fall with the tides. The garden is filled with seasonal flowers, offering beautiful scenery throughout the year. Enjoy cherry blossoms in spring, hydrangeas in summer, and autumn foliage in the fall. There's also a tea room and an azumaya where you can enjoy a cup of tea while taking in the view. Hanroku Garden is a tranquil space where you can experience history and nature. Be sure to visit!
