A comprehensive park sprawling across the site of Kariya Castle, offering the beauty of nature throughout the four seasons. Famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot.
Kamejou Park is a comprehensive park in Kariya City, Aichi Prefecture, built on the site of Kariya Castle. The park offers a stroll through a Japanese garden, sports fields, a playground for children, and more—making it a great place to spend the whole day. During cherry blossom season, approximately 650 Someiyoshino cherry trees bloom brilliantly, attracting many visitors for hanami (cherry blossom viewing). You might even be lucky enough to spot a peacock, and if you're really fortunate, a male peacock showing off its plumage from a perch! Kamejou Park boasts a long history, dating back to 1553 when Mitsuhiro Mizuno constructed Kariya Castle. The park fell into disrepair during the Pacific War, as the high ground was used for military purposes. However, after the war, it was redeveloped as a place for citizens to relax and enjoy, leading to its present form. Within the park, you can find historical sites that tell the story of Kariya Castle, including the Juppontei, once used by the castle lord. These remnants offer a tangible connection to the past. With sports fields and playgrounds, it's also a perfect spot for families. Kamejou Park provides an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, offering a chance to connect with nature and unwind. Whether it's cherry blossom season or any other time of year, you'll find breathtaking scenery. We highly recommend a visit!
