Iwaii Falls, located in the mountains of northern Okayama Prefecture, is a powerful waterfall approximately 10 meters high and 6 meters wide, its grandeur captivating all who visit. Iwaii Falls is also known for "Iwaii," a spring located very near the falls, renowned for its exceptional water quality. This spring is listed among Japan's 100 Best Waters and has long been believed to possess spiritual power, particularly associated with fertility. A local legend speaks of couples who, after drinking the water for 21 days, were blessed with children, making it affectionately known as the "Child-Bearing Water." The most striking feature of Iwaii Falls is the ability to walk behind it. Passing under a massive rock formation, you can walk behind the cascading water, feeling the mist on your skin and the thunderous roar up close. It's an immersive experience that lets you feel the raw power of nature. The area surrounding Iwaii Falls is abundant with nature. Enjoy a forest bath, the perfect way to refresh your mind and body. The scenery is breathtaking in spring, with vibrant greenery, and equally stunning in autumn with the vibrant colors of the foliage. Experience the beauty of the changing seasons. Due to snowfall, access is impossible during the winter season (late December to early April). *Significant damage, including landslides, has occurred to the walking trail leading to Iwai Falls and the forest road leading to the parking lot due to heavy rain caused by Typhoon No. 7 in mid-August 2023. Currently, Iwai Falls is inaccessible. While restoration work is planned for fiscal year 2024, it will take considerable time, making access unlikely during that year.
