Overview

Shirakawa Spring, located in Shirakawa, Ueki-machi, Kita-ku, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture, is a spring selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Famous Waters by the Ministry of the Environment. Throughout the year, 60 tons of crystal-clear water, at a constant temperature of 14℃ (57.2°F), gushes forth every minute, forming the source of the Shirakawa River which flows through the center of Kumamoto City. Shirakawa Spring is a tranquil and beautiful place surrounded by lush nature. A well-maintained walking path winds through the area, offering shaded walkways that make it relatively cool even in summer. While strolling along the path, you can enjoy the sounds of birds singing and dappled sunlight filtering through the trees, experiencing the abundance of nature. Near the spring, you'll find the Shirakawa Spring water collection point, where you can fill up your bottles with this fresh water for free. It's so popular and delicious that even locals regularly use it. When visiting Shirakawa Spring, be sure to collect some water and taste its refreshing purity.
